Debt collection expertise overcomes false payment promises
We have successfully recovered almost £11,000 in overdue invoices on behalf of a supplier of marble, granite and quartz.
All of the invoices were owed by a long-standing customer of our client, who have been supplying the trade for over 20 years.
Although the balance wasn’t disputed, the customer’s numerous broken promises of payment led to our client’s credit controller, Trudi Mills, seeking professional assistance in their bid to obtain payment.
Our initial communication to the customer resulted in their acknowledgement of the due balances and intention to pay, proposing a payment plan that would see the balance cleared over the following three months.
Given the repeated false promises that had previously been made, however, we asked for the first instalment to be made sooner and to be advised when the subsequent payments would be made.
“It can really wear you down”
After these requests and subsequent attempts to contact the customer were ignored, we issued a letter before action, informing them of our client’s intention to commence legal proceedings should payment remain outstanding.
This action resulted in the customer agreeing to pay the full balance of £10,984 immediately, with payment received the very next day – two months earlier than the proposed payment plan would have ended.
“When a customer continually promises payment and still doesn’t pay it can really wear you down,” explained Ms Mills.
