Focused approach
Chasing payment from one particular customer was taking up valuable time for forward-thinking business solutions company, Wupwoo Limited. Engaging outsourced debt collection agency Hilton-Baird Collection Services ensured the debt was quickly recovered, as well as statutory compensation and interest charges.
Peter Martin, Operations Manager at Wupwoo, instructed the team at Hilton-Baird to recover the debt which consisted of two invoices from one customer, totalling £3,843.60.
During Hilton-Baird’s preliminary dialogue, the customer claimed that the invoice was disputed and therefore they were unprepared to pay the full amount, instead offering £2,000 by way of a settlement.
Hilton-Baird’s team has extensive experience in negotiations with debtors who attempt to avoid paying in full so requested that further evidence to support this claim was provided, informing the customer that the full amount would remain payable if such evidence was not produced.
Despite many attempts to re-establish contact with the customer to obtain relevant evidence to support their claims, nothing was forthcoming. It was apparent that there was no basis to accept the £2,000 settlement offered so, in agreement with Wupwoo, Hilton-Baird’s team issued a Letter Before Action.
This correspondence prompted a quick response from the customer stating that they intended to pay the full amount within seven days.
Hilton-Baird recovered a total of £4,985.67 from Wupwoo’s customer, which includes the original invoiced sum, plus statutory compensation and interest (charged at 8% above base rate and accruing daily) under The Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 European Directive 2000/35/EC.
