Taking the legal route to recover unpaid invoices has become a widely used tactic in recent months as business owners have opted for what, on the surface, seems the firmest way to deal with an evasive customer.
Yet this doesn’t always prove productive. While court cases invariably drag on and can become costly processes, County Court Judgments are often difficult to enforce.
Streamline Taxis incurred a doubtful debt for services it provided and, following months of chasing and negotiating with the customer, director Stephen Pritchard opted to take legal action.
One month later he had successfully obtained a CCJ against the customer, yet this failed to have the desired effect as payment was still not forthcoming. Unsure where to turn however, Mr Pritchard approached Hilton-Baird Collection Services to see whether a more strategic approach would bring the desired outcome.
After assessing the nature of the debt and identifying the most appropriate strategy, our team quickly got to work contacting the customer and outlining their options with regards to payment. This was ultimately the nudge they required in order to pay, with the judgment amount received in full just two weeks after instruction to prove once again that the art of careful mediation is usually the most productive path to a successful recovery.
